The first Lidl GB store opened its doors in 1994 and 26 years later, we now have more than 860 stores and 13 regional distribution centres across Britain, employing over 25,000 people.

We take great pride in providing our customers with the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices and work closely with our suppliers to make this possible. We're also passionate about sourcing locally where possible and more than two thirds of our products are sourced from British suppliers.

    Lidl opens its first store in Germany, employing three people and stocking around 500 product lines

  • 1989

    Lidl expands internationally with the opening of its first store in France

  • 1994

    In November we opened our first ten British stores across the country

  • 2017

    Lidl opens its first stores in the United States

  • 2019

    Today, we proudly offer a network of over 760 stores in Britain with 13 regional distribution centres delivering fresh, quality produce across England, Scotland and Wales

  • 2008

    As the number of our British stores increases we begin to firmly establish ourselves as a leading retailer in the UK
