  • Lidl is leveraging its scale to deliver targeted, hyper-local impact that supports better outcomes for communities across Great Britain.

25th September 2026 - Lidl has announced a new target to support five million people across Great Britain by 2030, as part of its new ‘Better Futures’ commitment.

By bringing its diverse community programmes together under a single, quantifiable target, the discounter is aiming to double down on reducing food insecurity, improving access to employment, delivering financial support to communities, and supporting children’s health.

With government data showing that 65% of Local Authority Districts across Great Britain contain at least one neighbourhood among the nation’s  10% most deprived1, Lidl is using its substantial scale to deliver targeted, hyper-local support shaped around the needs of individual communities. .

The 'Better Futures' approach unifies the discounter’s community initiatives under four distinct pillars, aiming to surpass current benchmarks and introduce new initiatives to reach even more people:

Promoting food security: Lidl is committed to ensuring healthy, nutritious surplus food is distributed directly to those who need it most. Through its 'Feed it Back' initiative, the discounter is working with both Olio and Neighbourly to redistribute surplus food directly into local communities.

Community impact: To deliver vital financial support to local causes, the Lidl Community Fund distributes an annual donation of £1m via Neighbourly. This initiative is now selected through votes cast by both customers and colleagues, ensuring that funding is allocated to the causes that matter most to communities Lidl serves.

Supporting children: Lidl is actively funding nutritional education via The Lidl Foodies programme, taught in one in four primary schools in Britain since launching in 2024. Simultaneously, the discounter’s partnership with the NSPCC and Childline raised £2.5 million last year, which is used to fund vital counselling sessions.

Tackling unemployment: Lidl is dedicated to removing barriers to employment through targeted paid initiatives, youth programmes, and specialised recruitment support. Partnering with Standing Tall, Lidl GB actively help individuals experiencing homelessness secure stable, meaningful work.

The target was launched at the discounter’s latest 'Lidl in Dialogue' event, where charities, industry organisations, and suppliers gathered to address the growing challenge of community deprivation and the need for solutions shaped around local needs .

Speaking at the Lidl in Dialogue event, Georgina Hall, Corporate Affairs Director at Lidl, commented: "At Lidl, we sit at the heart of communities across the length and breadth of Great Britain. Serving three in five households with more than 1,015 stores, we see the pressures faced first-hand. For us, supporting communities is not separate from our business strategy, it is central to how we operate.

"We know that no two neighbourhoods are the same. A one-size-fits-all approach does not work, which is why we’re committed to targeted, hyper-local action. Our new 'Better Futures' target to support five million people across Great Britain by 2030 represents our commitment to scaling our impact. Lasting change happens when businesses, charities, local organisations, and policymakers work together. By combining our national reach with local intelligence, we can bridge that gap and help our neighbourhoods thrive."

Lidl’s approach combines its national scale with insight from local partners to direct support towards the specific needs of individual communities, reflecting its commitment to supporting ‘Better Futures’ across Great Britain.
