29TH NOVEMBER 2024, LONDON – Part of a potential masterplan? Lidl has announced its precious blue plaque honouring Manchester legend Liam Gallagher has gone missing from its Newton Heath store, after it was installed earlier this year to celebrate his almost gig at the venue.

As seen in missing posters erected on lampposts and trees this morning, Lidl shared that its “plaque has slid away from our wonderwall”, potentially now “half a world away”. Apparently, the retailer can’t “stop crying our hearts out”.

Having been erected following a supersonic social media response to icon Liam Gallagher’s post that he would ‘Gig at Lidl’ back in June if the Co-op Live venue fell through, the special blue plaque was installed to commemorate the show-that-almost-was. Emblazoned with ‘LIAM GALLAGHER, LEGEND ‘ALMOST PLAYED HERE’ JUNE 2024’, the memory was intended to live forever at the local Lidl Newton Heath store, going nowhere. Since then, it has become a tourist attraction, with locals proud of their tribute to a local legend and it even featuring in Manchester Taxi Tours itineraries.

With no leads as to its whereabouts, Lidl is now spreading the word with its posters, hopeful that the iconic memento can find its way back home ahead of Christmas. Not one to look back in anger, the retailer is embracing the season of generosity and offering a no-questions-asked reward of £500 in Lidl vouchers for the plaque’s safe return. That’s a fair few half past three lasagna’s.

Those who have any information on the whereabouts of the Liam Gallagher plaque should email dontlookplaqueinanger@lidlforever.com, with the reward granted to whoever reunites the keepsake safe and sound to its rightful home.
